SKATE BITCHES

ImageWe’re lucky enough to have Sydney’s first screening of Skate Bitches, a fucking cool DIY film put together by Samuel Raooul Shanahoy and featuring members of some of the bands playing (AWSK & Rogue Elephant)

Aggie Doom, Nancy Spew, Bobby Sox, Motley, Van Delle, Weetzie and Rodent are the skate bitches, a bad ass skateboarding girl gang who steal each other candy, terrorise the streets and are bff’s.

One day, Aggie Doom brings her friend Josie to the secret club house. Josie rides a longboard, loves pastels and is very preppy. Some of the skate bitches don’t want Josie to ride with them and interrogate her about her curfew, criminal activity and what music she likes. The gang is torn between those who want to give Josie a chance and those who have already made up their mind about her. This causes the skate bitches to have a fight and some personal secrets to be exposed.

To try and save the gang they visit Jr Rat Queenie, the weird yet wise queen of the rats who lives in a dumpster. Jr Rat Queenie gives them a talking to about girl hate but will all of them agree? Will they be able to grow from this? Will their friendships be changed forever? And will Josie still want to ride with them by the end of the day?

Featuring music by Pony Time, Zombie Dogs and RVIVR.

How do we decolonise our bodies, our behaviours and our minds?

We find ourselves, from time to time, overwhelmed by the narratives published in the media, before daybreak, the stories that speak louder than those we know, because the wealthy and powerful invest in those stories.  It’s time to tell our own.

Let’s talk about the colonising forces of state governance, capitalism, patriarchy, racism and homophobia. Let’s talk about privilege, heterosexim and much more.

This is an emotionally-charged festival made by punks, queers, scumbags and anarchists.
A shout in a room full of quiet chatter. Deviants of all genders, sexualities, skin types and abilities invited.

Safer Spaces

Be a part of a community that creates safer spaces for everyone:

Society wreaks of  a long list of horrible “ism’s” that have the potential to make individuals feel really uncomfortable, anxious, even physically unsafe in their surroundings. And even when we’re in a social context where we actively resist these oppressions, it sadly does not mean that it happens… especially when alcohol & drugs are involved.

Whilst there cannot be a truly ‘safe’ space for every person, we’d like this event to be safer for all participating. Our ultimate hope for Decolonise III is for it to be an event that is fun for all attending and where everyone is given the respect that we each deserve.

Therefore, by attending this event you are agreeing to respect other people, respect the spaces where the events are held, and respect the neighbours of those spaces. Safer spaces crew will be assigned and announced at each event. If you don’t stick to these guidelines, be prepared to be removed from the space (remember, everyone is responsible and accountable for themselves, no matter their condition).

At Decolonise III there is NO SPACE & NO TOLERANCE for:

  • nationalistic, racist, sexist, homophobic, discriminatory or threatening behaviour
  • creepiness, sleaziness, non-consensual violence (physical, sexual) and similar behaviour

It is important that you stay responsible for your own safety this weekend and that you are aware of your own behaviours. But if you experience or witness something shitty, that you’re not down with or that makes you feel uncomfortable, please don’t feel scared or hesitant about approaching one of the organisers at the event. We feel it’s important for you to know that we are here to support you. You can find us at the door, behind the bar, in the kitchen or setting up the gear/stage!

NO JERKS!!
