About 2012
This festival aims to celebrate and address themes bubbling away under the philosophy of anarchism. We do not respect the Australian (or any) state, its affiliation with the Crown, or its forceful occupation of this land. It will take place over the Queen’s birthday weekend, celebrating Australia’s compliance with the Commonwealth. What a perfect time for an anti-authoritarian punk festival! We felt this was a good opportunity to come together and talk back to the oppressing forces in our lives. Whilst having a blast, obviously.
In addition to the huge variety of bands playing, we have organised workshops to discuss state governance, capitalism, racism, privilege, maintaining mental well-being and much more. This is also an opportunity for our community to empower itself by sharing experiences, learning hands-on skills, and networking with like-minded people. Through these, we hope that the silenced stories we all have can breathe in order to combat the ‘official’ Australian narrative.
The name of our festival has caused much discussion and some contention. Consequently, this will be the last year we will be running under the name of Decolonise. Unfortunately, despite our efforts of combining issues surrounding colonisation with the music we all love, we have decided Decolonise is not the most appropriate name for this festival.
But most of all, we want you to come along and have a fucking awesome time!
